Introduce yourself.
State your experience level.
Review the traffic control plan.
Confirm name and contact information of the TCS.
Review work activities, including the type and amount of equipment on site.
Note the location of stored materials, staging areas and overhead or underground utilities.
Identify a safe location for directing traffic.
Confirm signals between TCPs, workers, and equipment operators.
Speak up if you are not familiar with on-site equipment.
Inform mobile equipment operators of your control position and let them know that you will stop traffic only when safe to do so.
Review emergency stop procedures.
Confirm the name and contact information of the first aid attendant.
Confirm the location of the first aid station, nearest hospital, or medical facility.
If working alone confirm who will do person checks and the procedures that will be followed if you cannot be contacted.
Ensure that you have the necessary PPE.
Stretch and warm up prior to the start of your shift.
